Larry Herbert Dunlop was born on July 22, 1949, in Pisgah, Iowa to parents Kenneth and Margaret (McHugh) Dunlop. Larry attended school in Pisgah, Logan and Woodbine. He started operating heavy equipment as a teenager. In 1968, Larry enlisted in the United States Army and served in Vietnam. After his honorable discharge in 1971, he worked for Stockwell Construction in Audubon, Iowa. Larry married Dorothy Rudolph and to this union four children were born, Michael, Clinton, Jennifer and Regina. The family lived in Audubon and then in 1986 they moved to Woodbine and Larry began working for Tommy Gate. Larry later married Darla (Mau) Archer and to this union one daughter was born, Margaret. Larry retired from Tommy Gate in 2012, after working there for 28 years. After his retirement he went back to operating heavy equipment on a part time basis. On September 9, 2017, Larry married Margaret “Meg” (Schwery) Kohles at the St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Panama, Iowa. The couple lived in Panama and Larry drove a SWITA bus.
Larry was a member of the St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Panama. He loved to garden, put jigsaw puzzles together, golf, follow his grandchildren with their various activities, play cards, watch the Atlanta Braves play baseball and go to Village Inn on Wednesdays for free pie.
Larry died on Friday, August 5, 2022, at the Nebraska Medicine Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 73 years and 13 days.
Larry was preceded by his parents and one son, Michael Dunlop. He is survived by his wife, Margaret “Meg” Dunlop of Panama; four children, Clinton Dunlop of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Jennifer Dunlop of Omaha, Regina (Matt) Williams of Woodbine, Iowa and Margaret (Ryan) Bushnell of Queen City, Missouri; six stepchildren, Sara (Nick) Hall of Olathe, Kansas, Angie (Scott) Gross of Omaha, Linda (Nick) Oliver of Logan, Iowa, James (Maria) Archer of Woodbine, Matthew (April) Archer of Decatur, Nebraska and Jacob (Hannah) Archer of Moorhead, Iowa; 23 grandchildren; seven siblings, Keith Dunlop of Marshall, Missouri, Jane (Tom) Bothwell of Mondamin, Iowa, Gerald (Ok) Dunlop of Austin, Texas, Kyle Dunlop of Woodbine, Peter (Annette) Dunlop of Woodbine, Brian (Donna) Dunlop of Linden, Texas and Norman (Michelle) Dunlop of Maroa, Illinois; and many other relatives and friends.
