Alan Jay “Charlie” Whitmore was born on the Fourth of July 1950, to Francis and Donna (Smith) Whitmore in Logan, Iowa, the youngest of six children. He grew up with a love for baseball and fishing. Charlie graduated from Logan-Magnolia High School in 1968. He began working with his dad painting houses throughout Harrison County. Charlie later worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation in the Rest Area Division and then moved to Road Maintenance at the Missouri Valley Shop. He was also a member of the Logan Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department. On August 6, 1977, Charlie married Judy Guy of Wilton, Iowa. They were blessed with two sons: Luke, born in 1980, and Dustin, born in 1986. He worked hard for the DOT for 39 years while helping Judy raise the boys.

Charlie enjoyed coaching his boys in Pee Wee baseball and attending school sports and music events. He loved fishing and would go any time he could. Charlie also loved the College World Series, for which he had season tickets since 1968. He instilled in his family a love for all things Nebraska Cornhuskers. In his free time, Charlie enjoyed checking the town out and having coffee with the guys. He served the community by being a Logan City Council Member from 2007-2009. In 2009, Charlie and Judy retired and moved to Muscatine, Iowa, to help Judy care for her parents. While in Muscatine, he was able to fish and make new friends. Charlie would spend countless hours watching the Mississippi River and the eagles fly overhead. In 2021, they moved to Noble, Oklahoma to be closer to the boys and their families. Charlie enjoyed being with family again, taking his grandchildren fishing and attending school activities.  He also enjoyed working in his shed and spending time with his faithful dog, Hunter.

Charlie died on January 7, 2024, at the age of 73 years, six months and three days.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Harvey, Howard, Merlyn, William, Marceta, Ione, Marvin and Linda. He is survived by his loving wife, Judy; children, Luke (Jaime) Whitmore of Newcastle, Oklahoma and Dustin (Lauran) Whitmore of Blanchard, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Steven and Ella; brother-in-law, Robert (Linda) Guy of Muscatine, Iowa; many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews; and many wonderful friends.
