Allan Paul Messmer
Al was born August 30, 1961 to parents Paul and Karen (Simmons) Messmer of Wessington Springs of South Dakota. He attended Schubert Country School through 8th grade and graduated from Wessington Springs High School in 1980. He attended Northern State University in Aberdeen and graduated with a degree in Business and accounting.
Al married Dana Winters in October of 1984. They lived in Appleton, Wisconsin for a short time. Later he worked in Omaha and Sioux City for Ratigan car dealers as a service technician. Al moved back to Wessington Springs for a couple of years. In 1991 he bought a farm in Woodbine, Iowa where he and Nick moved. He also worked as an accountant for McCord's trucking firm at that time. He was currently farming and working at a hog farm close to his residence.
Al was always active in sports and was looking forward to watching Nick in football and his other activities. He was always fond of animals and had a beautiful herd of Black Angus cows that he took care of so well and was very proud of them. His calves always had a great reputation at the sale barn.
Al had a close relationship with his friends and neighbors. He exchanged work with them throughout the years.
Al died Tuesday, September 3rd in a tractor accident near his home in rural Woodbine, IA at the age of 41 years, and 4 days.
Al was preceded in death by his grandfather Simon E. Messmer. He is survived by three children; Nicholas Messmer of Woodbine, Alexa Messmer of Appleton, WI, Christopher Donahoo of Corning, IA; his parents Paul & Karen Messmer of Wessington Springs, SD; sister Jackie and her husband Lee Johnson of Wessington Springs, SD; brother Jeffrey and his wife Trish Messmer of Wessington Springs, SD; nieces, Lacey & Laura Johnson; nephews, Andy Johnson, Blake, Austin and Jacob Messmer all of Wessington Springs, SD; grandparents Bernard and Iva Simmons of Wessington Springs, SD; grandmother Theresa Messmer of Salina, KS and many other relatives and friends.
