Alvin Leroy Blankenship was born on March 15, 1914, north of Logan, Iowa to Frank and Dora Anna (Plath) Blankenship. He attended country school and then started farming with his parents. Alvin attended a dance in Woodbine where he met Eula Adamson. The two were married on June 12, 1935, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Magnolia, Iowa. The couple farmed near Logan and raised cattle, hogs, chickens, and sheep. The couple moved into Logan in 1975. Alvin completely remodeled the home taking it from a two story to a comfortable one story. In the fall of 2012 they moved to Council Bluffs due to some health concerns and to be closer to their daughter and her family.
Alvin was baptized a on April 26, 1914 and confirmed on July 12, 1928 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Magnolia by Pastor George Kupke. He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Logan. Alvin loved farming and his horses. The couple loved to square dance and belonged to the Circle 8 Square Dance Club. They also liked to travel and took many trips around the United States visiting a total of 48 states. Alvin enjoyed woodworking in his retirement and made replicas of the Harrison County Courthouse, the church, wagons, etc.
Alvin died on Monday, November 16, 2015, at the Midlands Living Center in Council Bluffs, Iowa at the age of 101 years, eight months, and one day.
Alvin was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Harold and Francis Blankenship and infant great great grandson, Easton Lane. He is survived by his wife of 80 years, Eula Blankenship of Council Bluffs, Iowa; daughter, Barbara and her husband Ed Hornbeck of Council Bluffs, Iowa; two granddaughters, Ronda and her husband Jeff Thomas and Denise and her husband Mitch Lane all of Council Bluffs, Iowa; six great grandchildren Ashley (Jesse) Smith, Cody (Janna) Thomas, Tyler Thomas, Korey (Amanda) Lane, Kylie lane, and Kelly Lane; three great great grandchildren, Nicole Smith, Lucas Smith and Brinley Lane; and many other relatives and friends
