Barbara Phyllis (Miles) Long was born November 24, 1925, to Marcus and Phyllis (Widney) Miles in Dunlap, Iowa. She was raised in Dunlap and attended the Dunlap school. She taught country school for one year. Barbara married Wayne Long on August 12, 1943. They lived in Dunlap and then moved to Colorado. After the children were raised Barbara worked at the Carpenters Union Hall for 20 years and was also an Avon Consultant. The couple moved back to Dunlap in 1994.
Barbara was a member of Methodist Church and the Sunshine Club in Dunlap. She enjoyed working on crossword puzzles, crocheting, and traveling. Barbara especially loved spending time with family and friends.
Barbara died October 18, 2008, at the Dunlap Nursing Home and Rehab Center in Dunlap, Iowa at the age of 82 years, 10 months, and 24 days.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wayne Long; and one great grandson. She is survived by her three children, Pat (Earl) Gillett of Sumner, WA; Peggy (Sam) Raudenbush of Omaha, NE; Tom (Karen) Long of Reno, NV; two sisters, Marge McCord of Bennington, NE; Mary (Jerre) Wojtkewicz of Milliken, CO; four brothers, Edward Miles of Canon City CO; Marc (Jan) Miles of Cragford, AL; Jim (Marla) Miles of Colorado Springs, CO; Richard (Darla) Miles of Omaha, NE; 8 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.
