Betty Lois (Schlensig) Simon was born November 12, 1929, near Dunlap, Iowa to Oscar and Lida Myrtle (Black) Schlensig. She attended country school and graduated from Dunlap High School. On June 17, 1952, she married Donald M. Simon in Dunlap, Iowa. The couple lived in Chicago, Illinois for 30 years. After Donald died, she moved to the Kansas City area and then to Omaha to be near her children.

Betty loved to write poetry and has had some of her writings published. She was very family oriented and worked with the women at her church in Chicago.

Betty died on June 30, 2004 at the Lifecare Center of America in Omaha, Nebraska attaining the age of 74 years, seven months and 18 days.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers Albert and Charles Schlensig and four sisters Mary Bernacchi, Jessie Levy, Jennette Siglin and Myrtle Hanson. She is survived by five children Joyce and her husband Ron Rowold of Lee's Summit, Missouri, Donald Simon and his wife Laura of Barrington, Illinois, David Simon and his wife Karen of Omaha, Nebraska, Glenn Simon of Lee's Summit, Missouri, and Paul Simon of Kansas City, Missouri; 12 grandchildren; three brothers Bill Schlensig and his wife Helen of Omaha, Nebraska, Jerry Schlensig and his wife Leola of Alma Gorda, New Mexico, and Jim Schlensig of Denison, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.
