William Edward Pitt was born June 5, 1922, to Sidney and Maggie (Silleau) Pitt in Ainsworth, Nebraska. Bill lived in Ainsworth until he was two. The family then moved to South Dakota. Bill lived there for ten years before moving to the Persia, Iowa area. Bill graduated from Logan High School in 1939. He worked for area farmers for a few years, and then started farming on his own. On January 22, 1944, Bill married Lila Hillyer at the Methodist Parsonage in Logan. The couple continued to farm east of Logan until their retirement. They moved into Logan in 1994.

Bill was a member of Community of Christ. He drove a school bus for Logan Magnolia Schools for ten years, served on the Harrison County Fair Board for 25 years, Farm Bureau, and Harrison County Extension. Bill enjoyed the annual Pitt family camp outs for 30 years.

Bill died on Sunday, January 15, 2006, at Immanuel Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska attaining the age of 83 years, seven months, and 10 days.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; son, Rusty Pitt in 1977; daughter Nancy Green in 1999; grandson, Mark Zimmerman; two brothers, Leroy and Donald Pitt; four sisters, Pearl Kendig, Kathryn Davis, Dorothy Brown and Lavina Hoefer. He is survived by his wife, Lila Pitt of Logan, Iowa; six children, Kenneth Pitt and his wife Barbara of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Terry Pitt and his wife Frances of Sedro Woolley, Washington, Rick Pitt and his wife Deborah of Prole, Iowa, Scott Pitt and his wife Sharma of Eldora, Iowa, Amy and her husband Jeff Ebsen of Crescent, Iowa, Maxie Pitt and his wife Cindy of Lamoni, Iowa; 21 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; sister, Thelma Prause of Washougal, Washington; and many other relatives and friends.
