William Lloyd Whitmore was born January 30, 1943, to Francis and Florene (Epperson) Whitmore in Logan, Iowa. Bill was raised in Logan and then moved to Woodbine his junior year of high school graduating from Woodbine High School in 1961. Bill was active in track, football, basketball and baseball in school. Bill proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He worked in Washington D.C. as a cryptographer until his honorable discharge. Bill married Anita Jensen on October 16, 1966, at the United Methodist Church in Woodbine. Bill worked for Great Plains Supply working into the manager position. On December 10, 1974, Bill and Anita opened the Whitmore Home Decorating Store. They retired in February of 2010.
Bill was a member of the United Methodist Church, Kiwanis, City Council and Woodbine Betterment. He coached little league football and played on the town team baseball and mixed league softball ~ always enjoying the men's softball tournament in Panama. He enjoyed helping at the home high school track meets as well as on the "chain gang" for the Friday night football games for more than 40 years. Bill loved to fish and play cards.
Bill died on Thursday, May 27, 2010, at the Veteran's Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 67 years, three months, and 27 days.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Donna Whitmore; three brothers, Harvey, Merlyn and Howard Whitmore; mother-in-law, Louise Jensen; and brother-in-law, John Jensen. He is survived by his wife, Anita Whitmore of Woodbine, Iowa; daughter, Billie Jo (Jon) Schulz of Utica, Nebraska; son, Phillip (Sue) Whitmore of Omaha, Nebraska; five grandchildren, Ethan, Jacob, Emily, Cheyanne and Jensen; sister Marceta (Duane) Weber; of Logan, Iowa; brother, Alan (Judy) Whitmore of Muscatine, Iowa; father-in-law, Preben Jensen; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Whitmore and Sue (John) Benedickt; all of Logan, Iowa; brother-in-law, Neil (Bette) Jensen of Woodbine, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.
