Bob Fairchild was born March 10, 1931, to Harry Clarence and Josephine Mae (Wilson) Fairchild in Missouri Valley, Iowa. He grew up in the Orson, Iowa area and attended Echo Country School. He graduated from Magnolia High School in 1949. After his graduation, Bob farmed with his dad and also did electrical work. In January of 1951 Bob joined the United States Air Force. He served in Puerto Rico and was honorably discharged in October of 1954. In December of 1953 Bob married Evelyn Block. The couple lived in Council Bluffs and Fort Wayne, Indiana. Bob attended Indiana Technical School for Electricians. He then worked for General Electric and the couple transferred to Lima, Ohio in 1957. In 1969 they moved to Wapakoneta, Ohio. Bob worked with air-conditioning, refrigeration, heating, and general electrical work. In July of 1972, the couple moved back to the Mondamin area. Bob farmed part-time and worked for Lutheran Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska until 1978. He then opened his own electrical and refrigeration business and enjoyed this work until his health failed.
Bob was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Magnolia, Iowa. He was baptized, confirmed, and married in this church. He was a Certificate member of the Refrigeration Service Engineers Society and he taught classes in Omaha. He was also a member of the Magnolia American Legion Post 612. Bob taught Bible classes at all the various locations he lived.
Bob died April 11, 2005, at Community Memorial Hospital in Missouri Valley, Iowa attaining the age of 74 years, one month and one day.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his younger sister, Alice; and his nephew, Terry Fairchild. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn of Mondamin, Iowa, three children, Julia and her husband Rob Marth of Mondamin, Iowa, John Fairchild and his wife Mary of Missouri Valley, Iowa, Laura and her husband Paul Hartman of Little Sioux, Iowa; six grandchildren; one great grandson; brother, William Fairchild and his wife Judy of Mondamin, Iowa; two brothers-in-law, Max Block and his wife Rose of Omaha, Nebraska, Carl Block and his wife Donna of LaSalle, Colorado; one aunt, Ethil Hodges of Missouri Valley, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.
