Candace J. Barnes

Candace J. Barnes, formerly of Mound City, Missouri and St. Joseph, Missouri passed from this world into eternal glory on Sunday, December 29, 2024, after a brief illness. She was born April 13, 1954, in Kansas City, Missouri to Clayton and Pat Barnes. A 1972 Holt County R-2, Mound City graduate, a 1976 NWMSU graduate and a 1979 graduate of the University of Missouri School of Law, Candace practiced family law for over thirty years in St. Joseph where her co-workers were like a second family.

Her love of travel and adventure included several vacation trips, particularly to National Parks, historical sites and the desert southwest. Definitely a “fun” aunt/great aunt, she valued and treasured the relationships with her nieces and nephew and their children. Many precious and happy memories were made on visits with Aunt Candy. She was a loving and attentive caregiver for her mother, Pat, for many years. She enjoyed worship at the Mound City Baptist Church where she was one of the regular pianists. In 2013, Candace retired to be closer to family in Logan, Iowa where she found new friends in the community and her new church home, Landmark Baptist Church. In 2021, she and her sister moved to Winterset, Iowa to be near family, again finding new neighbors and friends, worshiping at Grace Baptist Church.

Left to cherish her memory are her sister, Linda Francis of Winterset; brother, Keith Barnes and his wife Gayle of Gassville, Arkansas; nephew, Andrew Francis and his wife Amber of Wahoo, Nebraska; niece, Anna and her husband Matthew Allen of Winterset; niece, Shannon and her husband Doug Layton, of Yellville, Arkansas; great nieces and nephews, Stephen, Caleb, Nathan and Abigail Francis, Alexandra, Georgia, Vivan and James Allen, John and his wife Jordan, Hailey and Olivia Layton; as well as her aunt, Linda Martin of Decatur, Arkansas; cousins, Patty and her husband Fred Gage and Judy and her husband John Risse both of Atchison, Kansas, Scott Reeves and his wife Jamie, of Springfield, Missouri and John Martin of Decatur, Arkansas; and many good friends and colleagues.

A graveside service will be held at 3:30 p.m., Friday, January 3, 2025, at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Mound City, Missouri conducted by Pastor Randy Williams and a memorial service at the Landmark Baptist Church, Logan, Iowa at 2 p.m., Sunday January 12, 2025.
