Carl Hall

Carl Edward Hall was born February 7, 1918, to Dick and Bernice (Logan) Hall in Logan, Iowa. He was raised in the Logan area, attended country school and graduated from Logan High School in 1936. Carl's father died in 1937. Carl began farming with his mother until 1942 at which time he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He served in Great Britain with the chemical warfare service. Carl married R. Arlene Pitt on January 30, 1943 at the Methodist Church in Omaha. The couple farmed Arlene's mother's farm in Cass Township. Carl also worked for the Union Pacific, Campbell's Soup, Vicker's, at the Logan School as a custodian, the Fort Calhoun Nuclear Plant, and also as a carpenter and did custom bailing. In 1982 he retired from farming. The couple moved to Woodbine where Carl helped with Arlene's day care business in their home.

Carl was a member of the Woodbine Christian Church where he served as a deacon. He was also a member of the Chrysolite Masonic Lodge 420 A.F.&A.M. and the Persia American Legion. Carl loved to square dance and ballroom dance. He also enjoyed gardening.

Carl died February 10, 2009, at Longview Nursing Home in Missouri Valley at the age of 91 years and three days.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Arlene Hall in 2002; brother, Francis Hall and infant sister, Mildred Hall. He is survived by his three children, Dennis (Lois) Hall of Logan, Iowa, Dana (Connie) Hall of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Dorla Hall of Persia, Iowa; five grand-children; two great grand-children; two brothers, Merlin (Wilda) Hall of Corning, Iowa, Marion Hall of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.
