Cecelia Wegner

Cecelia Marie (Funk) Wegner was born on November 15, 1933, to Lawrence and Barbara (Windeshausen) Funk in Portsmouth, Iowa. She was raised near Portsmouth and graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1951. Following her high school graduation, Ceil worked at Mutual of Omaha. Cecelia married Walter Joseph Wegner on May 17, 1954, in Portsmouth, Iowa. The couple farmed west of Woodbine. Ceil was also a cook at the Woodbine Community School for many years. Walter died on September 1, 1999.

Ceil was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Altar Society in Woodbine. She enjoyed reading, gardening, cooking, and refinishing antique furniture.

Ceil died on Monday, June 4, 2018, at the Rose Vista Nursing Home in Woodbine, Iowa at the age of 84 years, six months, and 20 days.

Ceil was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter Wegner; son, James Wegner; son-in-law, Lynn Miller; and five brothers, Alfred, Harold, Lawrence, Herbert and Joe Funk; infant sister, Marie Funk; and sister, Josephine Arkfeld. She is survived by five children; Gerianne Miller of Woodbine, Iowa; John Wegner and his wife Nancy of Woodbine, Iowa, Bill Wegner and his wife Julie of Omaha, Nebraska, Joe Wegner of Deloit, Iowa, Tom Wegner and his wife Sherry of Council Bluffs, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; 10+ great grandchildren; one brother, Frank Funk and his wife Judy of Portsmouth, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.
