Charles Howard "Bud" Hildreth was born January 27, 1926, to Charles and Nina (Crews) Hildreth in Pisgah, Iowa. He attended Alan Center Country School and graduated from Pisgah High School in 1943. Bud joined the U. S. Navy and proudly served his country for three years during WWII. In 1948 he started working for Union Pacific Railroad as a blacksmith. Bud married Dorothy Hinkel on November 20, 1949, in Pisgah. The couple lived in Council Bluffs and were blessed with two sons. The family moved to Logan, Iowa in 1967 when they purchased a farm. The couple farmed the land and Bud continued working at UP until his retirement from UP in 1988.
Bud served on the extension council, as a tour guide for Loess Hill, and volunteered at the Historical Village. Bud and Dorothy enjoyed many winters in Arizona. He also enjoyed watching his grandkids in their various activities and he enjoyed hunting and fishing as well.
Bud died April 21, 2007, at Rose Vista Nursing Home attaining the age of 81 years, two months and 25 days.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Phyllis Peterson and Helen Welter. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Hildreth of Logan, Iowa; two sons, Jody Hildreth and his wife Kristi of Logan, Iowa and Dana Hildreth and his wife Deb of Neola, Iowa; five grand-children, Sarah, Daisha, Charles Dustin, Brianne, and Caleb seven step grandchildren; two step greatgrand-children; six brothers, Warren & Martha, Arlan & JoAnn, Bernard & Doris, Russell & Connie, Joe & Dorothy, and Royce & Elaine; three sisters, Neva & Estal Hinkel, Janece Connery and Sandy Tucker; and many other relatives and friends.
