Charles "Bud" Elson Holben was born October 7, 1925, to Elson and Tessie (Jones) Holben in Pisgah, Iowa. He was raised in Pisgah and graduated from Pisgah High School in 1943. After graduation Bud worked at the bomber plant in Omaha. Bud married Velma Ruth Harmon on July 21, 1946, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The couple lived in Pisgah and Bud worked for Swain Motors as a mechanic until 1960. At this time they moved to Storm Lake, Iowa and Bud worked as a mechanic for the Peter Pan Bread Company truck fleet. They returned to Pisgah in 1963. Bud worked as a mechanic or Johnson Motor Company. Bud retired in the early 1990s.
Bud was a member of the Community of Christ and was an ordained priest and later as an elder. He served on the Pisgah City Council for 20+ years and also on the Pisgah Fire Department. After his retirement, Bud enjoyed fishing. He also enjoyed watching baseball, television, movies and he was an avid Iowa fan.
Bud died on Tuesday, December 23, 2008, at the Community Memorial Hospital in Missouri Valley, Iowa at the age of 83 years, two months, and 16 days.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Velma on November 11, 2008; two infant sons, Randall and Stewart Holben; granddaughter Elizabeth Holben; and sister, Elaine Page. He is survived by his four children, Kristine (Tim) Gregory of Riverton, Wyoming, Steve (Laurie) Holben of Fremont, Nebraska, Rod (Linda) Holben of Pisgah, Iowa, John Holben of Council Bluffs, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
