Charlie Mumm

Charles Joseph Mumm was born on April 21, 1935, to Peter and Frances (Gross) Mumm near Earling, Iowa. He attended St. Joseph Catholic School in Earling. Charlie started farming in the Earling area, and on September 10, 1957, Charlie married Verla Rau in Manilla, Iowa. The couple continued to farm between Dunlap and Earling, Iowa. Charlie also drove a truck S & S Trucking, Erlbacher Brothers, and G&R Trucking.

Charlie was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Earling. He was a member of the St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Dunlap. Charlie had quite a memory for dates and events. He loved riding his horses and also riding in a number of rodeos in his younger years. He also loved everything about farming. Charlie had a very direct outlook on life and had a great sense of humor. He enjoyed playing pool, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.

Charlie died on Monday, October 20, 2014, in a 4-wheeler accident near his home near Earling, Iowa at the age of 79 years and five months and 29 days.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Kay Lynn Mumm in 1963 and Jill Mumm in 1988; son, Jason Mumm in 2009; sister, Marie Blum and two brothers, Austin and Ivo Mumm. He is survived by his wife Verla Mumm of Earling, IA; children, Nancy (Bob) Blum of Malvern, IA, Jeff (Cindy) Mumm of Ankeny, IA, Dennis (Joyce) Mumm of Harlan, IA, Doug (Vicky) Mumm of Woodbine, IA, Kelly (Darcey) Mumm of Neola, IA, Gina (Kevin) Nelson of Omaha, NE, Jolene (Scott) Gubbels of Hubbard, NE, Alan Mumm of Dunlap, IA; 21 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; three sisters, Joan Sondag of Harlan, IA Rita (Jim) Kloewer of Panama, IA, Bernice (Gene) Stolz of Omaha, NE; four brothers, Francis (Marilyn) Mumm of Dunlap, IA, Jerome (Shirley) Mumm of Harlan, IA, Ray (Mary) Mumm of Ute, IA, Bob (Diana) Mumm of Gilman, IA; and many other relatives and friends.
