Clarence Shepard

Clarence Arthur Shepard was born April 7, 1913, to William Henry and Anna Louisa (Waite) Shepard. He graduated from Pisgah High School in 1931. After graduation he began farming with his parents. Clarence married Mildred (Rife) Russell in Colberson, Nebraska on September 23, 1957. The couple farmed and Clarence also did carpentry work with his brother, Ralph. Clarence was the cemetery sexton at Soldier Valley Cemetery where he dug the graves by hand well into his 80s. Mildred died on January 2, 2005.

Clarence was a member of the Mondamin United Methodist Church. He loved to garden and cut wood. He also enjoyed eating Mildred's baked goods.

Clarence died November 16, 2007, at Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 94 years, seven months, and nine days.

Clarence was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mildred; and his brother, Ralph. He is survived by two daughters, Kimberly Shepard and Carrie and her husband Randy Wohlers all of Mondamin, Iowa; one son, David Russell and his wife Marti of Oak Harbor, Washington; eight grand-children; 17 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; sister, Corlyss Parr of Neligh, Nebraska; four sisters-in-law, Dorothy Rounds, Lois Stevens, Mary Lockling, and Florine Rife Clites; brother-in-law, Kenneth Rife; and many other relatives and friends.
