Clark Oscar Melby was born on September 24, 1926, to Oscar and Christine (Lundberg) Melby near Moorhead, Iowa. He was raised in the Moorhead and Soldier area. He graduated from Moorhead High School. Clark served his country in the US Army during WWII. He received the Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal while serving in Germany. He married Vivian Pape and to this union three children were born. Clark farmed between Dunlap and Moorhead until 2002. He continued to help his son, Randy, farm until he was 86 years old.
Clark’s passion was farming the land. His other passion was his Walker Hounds which he ran in Corning, Iowa and Missouri. Clark won the Missouri State Field Trials with his dogs. He loved to coyote hunt with his dogs. He enjoyed tractor pulls and pickup pulls.
Clark died on Monday, November 4, 2019, at Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa at the age of 93 years, one month and 11 days.
Clark was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Ella Schlensig and Olga Melby; brothers, Raymond, Harry, Robert, Earl, Norman and Wilber Melby; and grandson, Mark Miller. He is survived by his three children, Joyce (Russ) Klein of Denison, Iowa, Clarion (Gay) Melby of Dow City, Iowa and Randy (Dorothy) Melby of Dunlap, Iowa; four grandchildren, Mike (Jill) Miller, Alana (Russ) Trimble, Chris (Tanya) Melby and Dan (Marcella) Melby; ten great-grandchildren, Gage and Gavin Miller, Jaxon, Tyson, Aaliyah and Ryan Trimble, Camden and Zella Melby, Jack and Elodie Melby; three sisters-in-law, Bonnie Baker of Clearfield, Iowa, Marion Melby of Moorhead, Iowa and Crystal Ward of McCook, Nebraska; and many other relatives and friends.
