Clifton Ronald Coleman was born May 25, 1919, in Hewitt, Minnesota to parents Marion and Dora (Young) Coleman. When he was one year old, the family moved to Iowa. He attended the Dunlap school. He also attended the CC Camp in Missouri Valley, Lakeview and Moorhead for two years. On December 18, 1940, Cliff enlisted in the United States Navy at Great Lakes Naval Base in Illinois. He was stationed in the South Pacific. He was honorably discharged on December 18, 1946, in San Diego, California. On March 30, 1946, Cliff married Lucille Alpert in East Los Angeles, California. The couple moved to Dunlap in 1947. Cliff trucked for the next two years for High Line. He was also the head cook for the railroad and served 18 men each day. Eventually, Cliff went to work for the Wilson Packing Plant in South Omaha. He worked there for 15 years. He retired in 1971 after sustaining a back injury. Lucille died on May 3, 1990.
Cliff died on July 15, 2004, at the Veteran's Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska attaining the age of 85 years, one month, and 20 days.
Cliff was preceded in death by his parents; wife Lucille; son Bill in November of 2000; four sisters Mildred Ehlers, Opal Erlandson, Eva Reed and Marjorie Cue; three brothers Glenn, Junior and Marion. He is survived by his daughter Joy and her husband Roger Miller of Missouri Valley, IA; sons Ronald Coleman and his wife Terry of Bloomington, IL, Edwin Coleman of Omaha, NE; four granddaughters; six great grandchildren; sister Jean Dougal of Sioux Falls, SD; brother Marvin "Bob" Coleman and his wife Geri of Council Bluffs, IA; and many other relatives and friends.
