Charles Dale Pettit was born December 12, 1930, in Council Bluffs, Iowa to parents Emmitt and Minnie (Peters) Pettit. He Moved to Logan, Iowa in 1933 and graduated from the Logan High School in 1949. After graduation he hitch hiked to the state of Washington and worked in the apple orchards. On June 23, 1952, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. On September 30, 1954, he married Danna Faye Henson in San Angelo, Texas. The couple was blessed with two children. Due to Dale being in the service, the couple lived in various locations including; San Angelo, Texas, Japan, and Goldsboro, North Carolina. He served his country for 20 years and retired from the Air Force on June 30, 1972. After his retirement he farmed with his brother Don, worked for the Wilson Holben Elevator in Logan, was a road grader for Harrison County, drove a bus for Crusader Bus Lines, and did carpentry work. Dale loved his coffee group in the mornings, going fishing, helping area farmers, and rides in the country.
Dale died Thursday, January 8, 2004, at his home in Logan, Iowa reaching the age of 73 years and 27 days.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Danna on August 31, 2003; brothers Leonard Pettit, Kenneth Pettit, Roger Pettit; sisters Norma Stoddard, Doyne Willard, and Berniece Merchant. He is survived by his two children Rodney Pettit and his wife Dawn of Logan, IA, Cheryl and her husband Bob Smith of Woodbine, IA; four grandsons; two great granddaughters; three brothers Don Pettit and his wife Carol of Logan, IA, Bob "Newt" Pettit of Onawa, IA, Ralph Pettit and his wife Jean of Phoenix, AZ; sister Delores Myer of Logan, IA; brother-in-law Dwight Merchant of Yucaipa, CA; three sisters-in-law Roseanne Pettit of Manchester, IA, Pat Pettit of Forest Lake, CA and Jeannette Pettit of Indio, CA and many other relatives and friends.
