Dan Lewis Manhart was born on November 28, 1956, in Council Bluffs, Iowa to Lynn and Eva Manhart. He graduated from Tri-Center high school in 1975 and went on to attend the two-year Farm Operator Program at Iowa State. Dan then began farming with his family. On March 5, 1983, he married Peggy Ploen at United Church of Christ in Minden, Iowa. Their daughter, Melissa Ann was born on March 3, 1984.

Dan was a long-time member of Minden United Church of Christ where he served on the church board. He served on the Persia Fire Department, was an EMT and served as treasurer of the fire department. Dan enjoyed tractor pulls and loved going to the Clay County Fair. Peggy and Dan attended this event every year of their 40 years of marriage. Dan was a member of Harrison County Cattleman’s and the Persia Satellite 4-H beef leader. He served on the Harrison Couty Fair Board and enjoyed going to farm shows. Dan was a loving husband to Peggy and proud father to Melissa.

Dan died on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at his home near Neola, Iowa at the age of 66 years, 11 months and ten days.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Melissa Ann Manhart. He is survived by his wife Peggy Manhart of Neola, Iowa; four siblings, Vern Manhart and Lois Gittins of Neola, Iowa, Linda Manhart of Council Bluffs, Iowa, David Manhart and his wife Cindy of Neola, Iowa and Calvin Manhart and his wife Amy of Missouri Valley, Iowa; beloved Golden Retriever, Milo; and many other relatives and friends.
