Daniel Mefferd

Daniel John Mefferd Jr. was born June 6, 1933, to Daniel and Odelia (Bauer) Mefferd. He was born near Woodbine and attended country school near Woodbine. He farmed with his dad for a few years. Danny proudly served his country in the Marine Corps where he was a part of the Night Raiders and Frozen Chosen during the Korean War. Danny married JoAnn Reed on June 6, 1958, in Woodbine. The couple farmed near Dunlap for a few years. Danny also worked at the Larsen Truck Stop. Then he started his own construction company called BID Construction, constructing grain bins and commercial buildings. He worked for the Dunlap Coop and Berne Coop in Ute doing tire work for a number of years. In 1979 he rented the Sinclair Station in Dunlap and in 1984 the couple built their own tire shop.

Danny was called into the priesthood in 1967 and was an elder at the RLDS church in Dunlap. He later became a member of the Followers of Christ in Woodbine and was the current pastor. He enjoyed baseball and loved socializing with family and friends.

Danny died May 1, 2009, at Immanuel Hospital in Omaha attaining the age 75 years, 10 months, and 25 days.

Danny was preceded in death by his parents; two infant sisters, Sheila and Sharon; and one infant son, Daniel Joseph. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, JoAnn Mefferd of Dunlap, IA; four children J.C. (Cheryl) Mefferd, Patti (Tom) Androy and Donnie Mefferd all of Dunlap, IA and Matt (Dr. Antje) Mefferd of Wichita, KS; nine grandchildren, two great grandchildren; five brothers, Les (Mary) Mefferd, Ron Mefferd and Marvin Mefferd all of Council Bluffs, IA; Bob (Gloria) Mefferd of Arion, IA, and Virgil (Marilyn) Mefferd of Battle Creek, IA; three sisters, Bernadine (Louie) Behm of Missouri Valley, IA, Marlene Schumann of Battle Creek, IA and Linda Thomsen of Denison, IA; many nieces, nephews; and other relatives and friends.
