Fred Richard "Dick" Black was born December 6, 1938, to Fred and Dorothy (Carpenter) Black in Dunlap, Iowa. Dick was raised in Woodbine and attended school there. Dick worked at Foodland Supermarket, Harrison County Road Department and also for Peter Kiewit Construction.
Dick enjoyed camping, biking, bowling, traveling, gardening, and hosting 4th of July. He particularly enjoyed visiting with his family and neighbors.
Dick died on Thursday, April 25, 2013, at Risen Son Christian Village in Council Bluffs, Iowa at the age of 74 years, four months, and 19 days.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents; son, Michael Black; granddaughter, Rebecca Pauley; son-in-law, Roger Brummer; and two sisters, Shirley Black and Cindy Mohn. He is survived by his daughters, Peggy and her husband Jerry Pauley of Panama, Iowa, Julie Brummer of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Kellie Render, and Sheri and her husband Steve Schwery of Woodbine, Iowa; 13 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Marilyn Hexom of Malvern, Iowa; three brothers, Kenneth Black and his wife Sandy of Carter Lake, Iowa, Marvin Black and his wife Glenda of Pomona Park, Florida, Norman Black and his wife Kathy of Omaha, Nebraska; and many other relatives and friends.
