Dixie Lee Hagemann was born on June 18, 1947, in Onawa, Iowa to Chester and Opal Ruth (Hundahl) Pape. She grew up on a farm outside of Pisgah, Iowa and attended school in Moorhead, Iowa, graduating in the class of 1965. Dixie attended beauty school in Council Bluffs, Iowa and started a shop in Moorhead. In 1967, Dixie was united in marriage to Allan Hagemann and they were blessed with three children, Jeff, Nikki and Dawn. The family moved to Charter Oak, Iowa where she also had a beauty shop. In 1991, they moved to Denison where she worked at Walmart for 24 years, until her retirement.
Throughout her life, Dixie was an avid supporter of college sports, with a particular fondness for the North Carolina Tar Heels and Michigan State. She embraced the excitement of March Madness, filling her time with spirited discussions and camaraderie around this annual sporting event. Her enthusiasm for athletics extended beyond basketball, as she also enjoyed attending races in Denison, where the thrill of competition brought her immense joy and watching WWE wrestling on TV. Music was another cornerstone of Dixie's life and she cherished attending concerts where she could share unforgettable moments with her daughters. She also shared a love of muscle cars with Jeff. Most important to Dixie was her family. She found immense fulfillment in spending quality time with her loved ones, particularly her granddaughters, who were a source of pride and happiness in her life.
Dixie died on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa at the age of 77 years, two months and 16 days.
Dixie was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Terry Joe Pape; sister, Nancy McCue; and brother-in-law, Tom Bothwell. She is survived by her children, Jeff Hagemann of Council Bluffs, Nikki Hagemann of Denison and Dawn Hagemann of Council Bluffs; granddaughters, Sierra Reaves (Jake Wilkerson) of Bellevue, Nebraska and Alysa Reaves of Des Moines, Iowa; sisters, Judy (Norman) Kuhlman of Moorhead and Peggy Bothwell of Woodbine, Iowa; brother-in-law, Gary McCue of Arlington, Texas; and many other relatives and friends.
