Dolores Johnson

Dolores Ann “Dort” (Springer) Johnson was born March 12, 1925, to Frank and Clara (Reinig) Springer near Portsmouth, Iowa. She attended country school and graduated from Dunlap High School in 1943. Dort     attended six weeks of summer school and then she taught country school for two years. Dort married    Kenneth Johnson at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Dunlap on September 22, 1945. The couple farmed east of Dunlap. The couple moved into Dunlap in 1984.  Kenneth died on October 31, 2012.

Dort was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, an officer of the Altar Society and Parish Council. She  also  enjoyed being a member of the neighborhood club. Dort loved the outdoors and tending to her flower and vegetable garden. She also enjoyed mowing the lawn and helping Kenneth. She liked to do embroidery work, puzzles, collect owls, and she was an avid bowler. Dort enjoyed the nieces and nephews that spent their summer vacations on the farm. She cared for many people and enjoyed visiting with the residents at the care center.

Dort died at the Dunlap Specialty Care on Sunday, July 8, 2018, attaining the age of 93 years, three months and 26 days.

Dort was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenneth Johnson; sister, Viola Lucille Miles; brother, Frank Springer; and niece, Susan Ann Goodwin. She is survived by special friends, Jim and Sue Stephens of Dunlap, Iowa; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
