Donna Fern (Christo) Vandemark was born July 8, 1942, to Donald and Ila (Peterson) Christo in Logan, Iowa. She was raised in Logan and attended the Logan school obtaining her GED. On September 10, 1958, Donna married Tommy Vandemark in Logan. The couple lived in Woodbine and then moved to Battle Creek and in 1965 they moved to Missouri Valley. In 1967 Donna completed her GED and started working at various places including: World Insurance, SnoCo Mfg., First Data Resources and finally UNMC. She retired from UNMC in 2013.
Donna was a 4-H leader for 40 years and she still helped at the Harrison County Fair. She was the best grandma. She enjoyed cooking and making everyone's favorite foods. She raised 5-Star La Mancha Dairy Goats. She loved to sew, knit, crochet and bake ~ decorating many wedding cakes. She also played the piano. After her retirement she was active with the Harrison County Genealogical Society and served as the vice-president. She also served on the Western Iowa Pioneer Cemetery Assoc.
Donna died on Wednesday, January 11, 2017, at her home near Missouri Valley, Iowa at the age of 74 years, six months, and three days.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law, Charlie Vandemark. She is survived by her husband, Tommy Vandemark of Missouri Valley, Iowa; three daughters, Jeanne (Larry) Engel of Pleasant Dale, Nebraska, Karen (Jon) Alexander of Juneau, Wisconsin, Diane (John) Abild of Atlantic, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; five siblings, Jerry (Andrea) Christo of Omaha, Nebraska, Tommy Christo and Boone (Sara) Christo all of Logan, Iowa, Penny (Jon) Kill of Kansas City, Kansas, Betsy (Jim) Kill of Magnolia, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.
