Dorothy Lorraine (Pryor) Hein was born August 13, 1919, to Harry and E. Irene (Cruise) Pryor on a farm southeast of Dunlap, Iowa. She was raised near Dunlap, attended Mill Creek Country School, and graduated from Dunlap High School in 1937. Dorothy married Ralph Hein on March 16, 1938, at the Broadway United Methodist Church Parsonage in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The couple farmed for three years southwest of town and then in 1941 they purchased the Hein family farm south of Dunlap. This farm belonged to Ralph's grandfather and is a century farm.
Dorothy was a member of the United Methodist Church in Dunlap since 1948, the Stitch and Chat Club, and a Canasta card club. She enjoyed bowling, crocheting, gardening and field work. She also enjoyed reading and baking cookies. Most importantly she loved her family.
Dorothy died on Tuesday, February 4, 2014, at the Dunlap Nursing and Rehab Center at the age of 94 years, five months and 22 days.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ralph Hein on January 24, 1994; granddaughter, Robin Hein; two brothers, Lloyd and Lyle Pryor; and two sisters, Hazel Dawson and Maribelle Heiden. She is survived by her five children, Robert (Elizabeth) Hein of Avoca, Iowa, L. Marlene (John) Thompson of Omaha, Nebraska, R. Joanne (Lowell "Jim") Siglin of Stark City, Missouri, Kenneth Hein of Dunlap, Iowa, Myrlen (Susan) Hein of Dunlap, Iowa; six grandchildren, Charles Hutchins Jr., Dennis Siglin, Melissa Whitney, Karen Hein, Ryan (Crystal) Hein, and Carissa (Jales) Hupke; two great grandchildren, Jessica and Hope Whitney; and many other relatives and friends.
