Edith May Jenkins was born December 6, 1918, to Amil and Mary (Jones) Hartwig in Dunlap, Iowa. She was raised in the Galland's Grove area and attended country school and Dunlap High School. Edith married Albert Schulte in 1934 at the St. Patrick's Rectory. The couple farmed near Dunlap until 1937 when they moved to Washington. They returned to Dunlap in 1939. The couple was blessed with four children. Albert died in 1948. Edith married Ancil "Doc" Jenkins in 1951 in Fort Dodge, Iowa. The couple lived in various locations before returning to Dunlap while Doc worked in construction. Doc died in 1994.
Edith was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She enjoyed collecting chickens, dancing and fishing. She loved to sew and quilt as well as play cards.
Edith died on Sunday, February 8, 2009, at the Crawford County Hospital in Denison, Iowa at the age of 90 years two months, and two days.
Edith was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Albert and Doc; two sisters, Gladys "Tootsie" Harper and Helen Mahlberg, one brother Harold Hartwig. She is survived by her four children, Betty (Dave) Winegar of Moorhead, Iowa, Leo (Ellen) Schulte of Devore, California, Ray "Butch" (Sheila) Schulte of Dunlap, Iowa, Jackie (Larry) Beam of Fremont, Nebraska; 10 grand-children; 17 great grandchildren; five great-great grand-children; sister, Ruth O'Day of Dunlap, IA; sister-in-law, Rita Hartwig of Dunlap, IA and many other relatives and friends.
