Edith Irene (Tietsort) McHugh was born February 24, 1922, to Delbert and Ollie (Jones) Tietsort. The family lived around Dunlap and Woodbine where Edith attended country schools. She was a "hired girl" for several families before marrying Dale McHugh on March 6, 1941.
Edith and Dale were farmers working together on the crops and chores. They started farming on the Nuzum place with a team of horses. Later they farmed the Powley place on the Willow bottom and then bought the Waldemar place at Pisgah. In 1964 they had the opportunity to move to a nice farm near Woodbine and farmed there until retirement.
Edith was a member of the United Methodist Church where she spent many hours volunteering as a Sunday School teacher and held many offices of the United Methodist Women and Church Women United. She was also a member of several neighborhood clubs and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Edith and Dale traveled on bus excursions touring the United States. They were faithful followers of the Old Settlers celebration at Magnolia, Iowa, where they met, and were often awarded the prize for longest married couple in attendance.
Edith had been living at Rose Vista following a stroke last fall and passed to her eternal home on Thursday, May 21, 2009, attaining age 87 years, two months and twenty-seven days.
