Eldred Ethel (Campbell) Brown was born August 12, 1912, to Clarence Roy and Daisie Ethel (Taylor) Campbell north of Beaver in Boone County, Iowa. In 1916 the family moved to a farm near Luther, Iowa. Eldred graduated from Luther Consolidated High School in 1930. The next week she enrolled at Iowa State Teachers College (now UNI) in Cedar Falls. She graduated with a degree in elementary education. She went on to Drake University and graduated with her Master's Degree in 1945. Eldred taught in rural schools at Boone, Viola, Audubon, and Manly, Iowa. At Rockford, Iowa she was the grade school and junior high principal. She then taught normal training at Redfield and came to Woodbine in 1944 to teach normal training as well. On July 11, 1947, Eldred married Harold W. Brown at Red Lodge, Montana. On their honeymoon the couple toured the Northwest and fished in Minnesota before returning to Harold's farm northeast of Woodbine. Eldred taught for 3 � years following her marriage. In July of 1968 the couple moved into Woodbine.
Eldred was a member of the Christian Church in Woodbine. Eldred was also a member of the P.E.O. sisterhood in Woodbine. She helped sponsor Campfire Girls, Girl Scouts, CYF, MYF, AAUW, and later was Chairwoman of the Harrison County Women's 4-H committee.
Eldred died on Saturday, March 8, 2008, at Rose Vista Nursing Home in Woodbine, Iowa attaining the age of 95 years, six months, and 25 days.
Eldred was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Brown on December 1, 1989 and one brother, Elbie Campbell. She is survived by three step-children, Donald (Alice) Brown of Florida, Margaret (Ed) Schneider of Woodbine, Iowa, Bernard (Lois) Brown of St. Paul, Minnesota; 12 grandchildren; several great and great-great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
