Ermabelle (Tupper) Gage was born October 15, 1915, to Frank and Lillie Belle (Landee) Tupper in rural Woodbine, Iowa. She was raised in Woodbine and graduated from Woodbine Normal School. Ermabelle taught school in Ida Grove, Iowa before she married Morris Gage on December 2, 1945, in Woodbine. Morris was in the United States Army so the couple lived in many locations in the United States and one year in France. Morris retired from the Army in 1957, and the couple moved to Woodbine in 1958. Morris died on January 20, 1977. After Morris died, Ermabelle returned to substitute teaching in the Woodbine area.
Ermabelle was a member of the First Christian Church, Daughters of the American Revolution, and Christian Women's Fellowship. She loved to read in her spare time.
Ermabelle died on Sunday, August 30, 2009, at Rose Vista Nursing Home in Woodbine, Iowa at the age of 93 years, 10 months, and 15 days.
Ermabelle was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Morris Gage; and her sister and brother-in-law, Beryl and Harold Gage. She is survived by her son, Frank and his wife Nancy of Gladstone, Missouri; two grandchildren, Angela and her husband Matt Rueter of Gladstone, Missouri; Adam Gage and his partner Rob May of St. Louis, Missouri; two great grandchildren, Emma and Isaac Rueter of Gladstone, Missouri; and many other relatives and friends.
