Eva Wahneeta (Boone) McDaniel was born on November 12, 1912, near Woodbine, Iowa to parents Emmett and Kathleen (Young) Boone. She attended country school near Woodbine and Woodbine Public School. She worked at Siebels Department Store in Woodbine. On Christmas Eve of 1935, Wahneeta married Floyd McDaniel. The couple had a fleet of gravel trucks and followed the work, living in many locations in the southern part of the United States. During World War II they lived in Kansas City and both worked in a plant that made airplanes. Wahneeta was a supervisor over the "Rosie the Riveters" and Floyd tested the finished planes. The couple later owned and farmed 360 acres of land just over the Iowa border in Missouri. Wahneeta was widowed at the age of 45 and she farmed the land herself for three years before selling the land and moving to Council Bluffs. She worked in the Circulation Department of the Omaha World Herald for 16 years,. She spent the weekends at her oldest brother's home, her childhood home, raising chickens, a garden, and cooking for all their extended family every Sunday. After her mandatory retirement at 65 she moved back to Woodbine to her childhood home until building a house in town in 1986.
Wahneeta liked canning, raising a garden, was eager to babysit the grandchildren and taught them all how to play cards. She had been in numerous women's clubs and couples card clubs.
Wahneeta was preceded in death by her parents; infant daughter, Noreen; her husband Floyd McDaniel on October 10, 1957; four brothers, George, Dean, John and Charlie Boone; sister, Kathleen Royer; and grandson, David Sides. She is survived by her son, Gary McDaniel and his wife Teresita of Plattsmouth, Nebraska; daughter, Beverly and her husband Roy Sides of Omaha, Nebraska; 11 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; sister, Bonnie Sumerfield of Omaha, Nebraska; and many other relatives and friends.
