Fern Ellen (Hein) Pryor was born September 12, 1930, to Gifford and Helen (Willis) Hein in Rural Dunlap, Iowa. Fern attended country school until she was a freshman and graduated from Dunlap High School in 1950. Fern married Edward "Lyle" Pryor of February 4, 1953. The couple was blessed with one daughter, Donna. The couple farmed until they moved to Grand Island, Nebraska where they managed the Pine Crest Motel. After returning to the Dunlap area, they farmed until their retirement. Fern was actively engaged in farming with Lyle.
Fern loved to crochet, garden, can, and sew. She was an active member of the First Congregational Church. She served as a Deaconess and President of the Ladies Circle. She taught both Sunday School and Bible School, and she held many other offices within the church over the years.
Fern died on Thursday, October 20, 2005, at the Dunlap Nursing and Rehab Center in Dunlap, Iowa attaining the age of 75 years, one month, and eight days.
Fern was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Wesley; and two sisters-in-law, Karen Hein and Mona Hein. She is survived by her husband, Lyle of Dunlap, Iowa, daughter, Donna of Dunlap, Iowa; three grandchildren, Matthew Gaul of Dunlap, Iowa, Heather Gaul of Woodbine, Iowa, Jonathan Gaul of Council Bluffs, Iowa; sister, Mary Ann and her husband Paul Garvin of Denison, Iowa; sister-in-law, Dorothy Hein of Dunlap, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.
