Florence Dorothy (Hillyer) Marley was born on June 6, 1920, to Amos and Evelyn (Dungan) Hillyer near Logan, Iowa. She attended country school, graduated from Logan High School, received her teaching certification and began teaching country school. On December 20, 1941, Florence married Max Marley. To this union five children were born. The family lived in the Logan area where Florence continued to teach country school for a few years. After she raised their family Florence began baby-sitting, doing housecleaning, bookkeeping for Max and Merrill and was the custodian at Perfection Learning. She then began managing the Logan Meal Site for a number of years. She retired from there at the age of 92.
Florence was a member of the Logan United Methodist Church, Eastern Star and was also a 4-H leader. Florence loved her family and cherished spending time with them. In her later years she enjoyed golfing.
Florence died Thursday, October 20, 2016, at the Community Memorial Hospital in Missouri Valley, Iowa at the age of 96 years, four months, and 14 days.
Florence was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother. She is survived by her five children, Merrill Marley of Logan, Iowa, Merlene and her husband Robert Tamney of Evans, Colorado, Evelyn Bucy of Magnolia, Iowa, Susan Marley of Parkville, Missouri, Cheryl Smith of Zanesville, Ohio; 14 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; a few great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Lila Pitt of Logan, Iowa and Norma and her husband Kenneth Archer of Honey Creek, Iowa and many other relatives and friends.
