Francis Floyd Ohl was born April 24, 1925, to August and Annette (Brown) Ohl in Earling, Iowa. Francis grew up in the Earling area and attended country school. He helped area farmers as well as his grandfather and uncles. On December 2, 1944, Francis married Vivian Andersen in the Lutheran Church in Carroll, Iowa. The couple farmed near Dow City. Francis also worked at the hatchery in Dow City. The couple moved to Carroll, Iowa, and Francis worked for Omar Bakery and delivered baked goods door to door. The couple moved back to Dow City and began farming again in 1953. The couple lived in Dunlap and Logan before purchasing their farm near Magnolia in December of 1964. Through the years Francis did carpentry and masonry work and he put these skills to work when he built their home in Woodbine in 1996.
Francis was a member of the Lutheran Church. He loved to fish, garden and play cards. He also loved to pick walnuts and hunt mushrooms.
Francis died on Sunday, July 31, 2005, at Creighton Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska attaining the age of 80 years, three months, and seven days.
Francis was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Mary Ann Ohl; grandson, Jeff Holcomb; brother, Darrell Ohl; and two sisters, Loreen Eyer and JoAnn Mitchell. He is survived by his wife, Vivian of Woodbine, Iowa four children, Don Ohl and his wife Ricki of Fairfax, Virginia, Jean Holcomb of Omaha, Nebraska, Rick Ohl and his wife Virgene of Logan, Iowa, and Kathleen Jacobsen of Woodbine, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; two sisters, Loretta and her husband Alfred Segebart of Battle Creek, Iowa, and Corlys and her husband Hubert Boysen of Arthur, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.
