Fredrick Andrew Ehlert was born November 10, 1953, to Leslie and Helen (James) Ehlert in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He was raised in the Woodbine area and graduated from Woodbine High School in 1971. He then attended Wayne State Teacher's College and received his Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. Fred began his teaching career at Shelton, Nebraska. After his father's death in 1977, Fred returned to Woodbine to teach third grade.
Fred enjoyed traveling and camping. Helen and Fred traveled to all 50 states as well as Europe and Canada. Fred also had a passion for stray dogs.
Fred died on Tuesday, January 29, 2008, in rural Woodbine, Iowa at the age of 54 years, two months, and 19 days.
Fred was preceded in death by an infant brother, Jimmie; and his father, Leslie on March 5, 1977. He is survived by his mother, Helen Ehlert of Woodbine, Iowa; one sister, Ellen and her husband Roy Vallie of Golden, Colorado; two nieces, Jeana Hammitt of Denver, Colorado, Joana Baldermann of Aurora, Colorado; one nephew, Jimmie Hammitt of Aurora, Colorado; and many other relatives and friends.
