Freeman Albert Vandemark was born on February 11, 1928, to Hoyt and Marie (Trimpe) Vandemark near Dunlap, Iowa in Rabbit Hollow. He was raised near Dunlap and attended school there. Freeman married Iva Radloff on February 25, 1950, at the Methodist Church's parsonage in Woodbine. Freeman farmed most of his life. He also worked at Gary's Ag, Foodland, Agriland FS, and Apotheca.
Freeman was a hard-working man. He served as a 4H leader for over 20 years, and he also served on the Fair Board. Freeman was a member of the Woodbine Saddle Club and served as president. He enjoyed raising hogs and helping his grandkids with their 4H projects. He loved to whistle, coon hunt, read, and tinker on things. Freeman also enjoyed country music and going for tractor and pick-up truck rides with the windows down. He enjoyed drinking Mountain Dew and having a bit of Redman chew. Freeman was known for always having a clean spade to work with.
Freeman died on Sunday, April 29, 2018, at the Westmont Nursing Home in Logan, Iowa, at the age of 90 years, 2 months and 18 days.
Freeman was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Charles Vandemark; grandchildren, Dottie Vandemark and Kevin Jackson; and sister-in-law, Donna Vandemark. Freeman is survived by his wife, Iva Vandemark of Woodbine, Iowa; daughter, Viola Jackson-Haag and her husband Ron Haag of Woodbine, Iowa; four sons, Dan Vandemark and his wife Paula of Woodbine, Iowa, Lloyd Vandemark and his wife Holly of Beebeetown, Iowa, Jim Vandemark and Randy Vandemark and his wife Lisa all of Woodbine, Iowa; nine grand-children; 10 great grandchildren; two brothers, Tommy Vandemark of Missouri Valley, Iowa and Lawrence and his wife Karolyn Vandemark of Woodbine, Iowa; sister-in-law, Grace Shafer of Missouri Valley; and many other friends and relatives.
