George Francis Kelley was born on September 10, 1932, to Thomas and Luella (Park) Kelley on the family farm near Panama, Iowa. The family of nine moved to a farm east of Woodbine Iowa and George attended Prairie Slope Country School thru 8th grade. He graduated from Woodbine High School in 1949. After high school George farmed with his father until entering the US Army, where he proudly served in Korea. On June 29, 1955, George married the love of his life Imogene (Imy) Johansen. George and Imy made their home in Council Bluffs where they raised their three daughters - Cheryl (Kevin) Moores, Susan (Mark) Sorenson and Janet Chase.
George retired from the USPS Omaha main branch as Superintendent of mails. In retirement he and Imy enjoyed spending winters at their 2nd home in Sun City, Arizona.
George died on Sunday, February 12, 2023, at Prairie Gate Assisted Living in Council Bluffs, Iowa at the age of 90 years, five months and two days.
George was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Opal Toxword; and brothers, Walter, Earl and Alvin Kelley. He is survived by his wife, Imy; daughters, Cheryl (Kevin) Moores, Susan (Mark) Sorenson and Janet Chase; grandsons, Matthew (Meagan) Moores, Nicholas Moores, Daniel Sorenson, Christopher (Alexandra) Sorenson, Alex Chase and Jake Chase; five great-grandchildren; brother, Donald Kelley; sister, Lois Schraeder; and many other relatives and friends.
