Woodbine�Gladys L. Thompson 93, of Woodbine died Saturday, October 12th at the Rose Vista Nursing Home in Woodbine.

Gladys Lucille Smith Thompson was born August 28, 1909 the sixth child of Arthur and Maggie (Ball Smith. She grew up on farms in Pottawattamie and Harrison Counties. In 1927, she graduated from Logan High School and completed Normal Training. For 3 � years she taught in rural schools, one of which was Merrybrook, which is now located on Lincolnway in Woodbine.

On February 19, 1931, she married Earle J. Thompson. To this union three children were born. Earle and Gladys lived and farmed on the Willow Creek road for 49 years. In 1979, they retired and moved into Woodbine. Earle died on April 6, 1993.

Gladys was a member and Elder of the Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the Jolly Neighbors Club, active at the Senior Congregate Meal site. She devoted her life to family, church, gardening and cooking. Many people have been gifted with her gladiolas, strawberries, raspberries, asparagus and sunshine cakes.

Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one grandson, Dennis Riordan, four brothers, William, Earl, Elmer and Lloyd Smith and two sisters, Alice Hammack and Beulah McElwain. She is survived by two daughters, Donna and husband Mel Doty of Oelwein, IA and Doris and husband John Riordan of Huntley, IL; one son, Donald Thompson and wife Elaine of Woodbine; 13 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; one brother, Orville Smith of Sumner, IA and numerous other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 PM Thursday, October 17th at the Presbyterian Church in Woodbine with Rev. William Denny officiating. Burial will be in the Woodbine Cemetery.

Visitation with the family will be from 5 - 8 PM Wednesday at the Fouts Funeral Home in Woodbine.
