Harvey Avis

Harvey LeRoy Avis was born on January 4, 1938 in Moorhead, Iowa to parents Lewis and Evelyn (Heistand) Avis. He attended country school and graduated from Treynor High School. He married Vivian Goss. He owned a service station in Treynor, then operated a backhoe for the telephone company and later moved to Oklahoma and did custom baling. In December of 1999, he moved to Underwood to be closer to his family.

Harvey died on Monday, September 1, 2003 at the Rose Vista Nursing Home in Woodbine at the age of 65 years, seven months and 28 days.

Harvey was preceded in death by his father, stepfather, George Lane and a brother, Roger Avis in June of 2001. He is survived by his three children, James "Jim" Avis of Underwood, Gerald "Jerry" Avis of Council Bluffs and Nancy & her husband Russell Swanson of Denver, CO; 5 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; his mother, Evelyn Avis of Woodbine; three sisters, Carole & her husband Ron Heck of Perry, IA, Marlene Rodenburg of Underwood, Shirley Husz of Norwalk, IA; two brothers, Alan Avis & his wife Karen of Boone, IA and Merle Avis of Treynor and many other relatives and friends.
