Hazel (Basch) Kierscht, 90, of Logan died on Sunday, November 9th, 2003 at Denison Care Center in Denison, Iowa. She was born on January 18, 1913 in Missouri Valley, IA to parents Henry and Pauline (Ronfeldt) Basch. She grew up in Old Town Missouri Valley and attended country school there. In November of 1930, she married Harry William Kierscht. The couple lived with his parents southeast of Logan for a short time and then they rented a farm east of his parents. They later purchased Harry's parents farm. Hazel worked on the farm also. She helped with the chores, the harvest and especially with the chickens. Harry died in August of 1977. Hazel continued till live on the farm and raise chickens until June of 1980 when she moved into Logan. In February of 2000, she became a resident of the Denison Care Center.

Hazel was a member of the Christian Church in Logan. She had been active with the ladies group there and had been in some neighborhood card clubs.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, son, Lloyd in December of 2002, two brothers, Harry and Joseph Basch and three sisters, Alma, Emma and Edna. She is survived by her two sons, Kenneth Kierscht and his wife Julienne of Wichita, Kansas and Harold Kierscht and his wife Connie of Denison, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Bonnie Kierscht of Bradenton, Florida; 11 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; special nephew, Merle Heim and his wife Rose of Logan, Iowa and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Friday, November 14th at the Christian Church in Logan, Iowa. Burial will be in the Bethel Cemetery near Logan.

Visitation with the family will be from 4 - 8 PM Thursday at the Fouts Funeral Home in Woodbine.
