Hazel Oliver

Pisgah, Iowa

Hazel (Johnson) Oliver was born January 13, 1913 to Christian and Ella (Nuzum) Johnson in Moorhead, Iowa. She grew up in the Moorhead area and graduated from Moorhead High School in 1931. Hazel was united in marriage to Glen Oliver on January 12, 1935. The couple began farming on the Gunderson farm southeast of Pisgah. In 1944, they purchased the H.L. Magnet farm, which is still in the family.

Hazel had a love for flowers. Her flower gardens were coveted by all those who knew her. She spent much time planting, pruning, watering and weeding her beautiful gardens. Hazel was a giver who spent much of her time doing things for others.

Throughout her life, she was actively involved with Ladies Aide and was a long-time member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Hazel enjoyed the simple things in life, especially spending time with her friends and family.

Hazel died on Monday, August 23, 2004, at the Rose Vista Nursing Home in Woodbine, Iowa at the age of 91 years, seven months and 11 days.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen on March 30, 1996; her daughter, Neva Roden, and two brothers, Johnny and Vern. Survivors include three sons Warren and his wife Rosalie of Magnolia, Gary of Somerset, Ohio, and Gale and special friend Bonnie of Soldier; daughter Glenice Carol and husband Bill Graham of Ahwatukee, Arizona; son-in-law Royl Roden and his wife Jane of Pisgah; 18 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
