Helen Merle (Grosvenor) Knauss was born August 14, 1925, near Logan Iowa to Homer Douglas and Marie (Smith) Grosvenor. She was raised in the Logan area and graduated from Logan High School in 1942. She taught school for three semesters at Starry Point School and then on February 23, 1944, Helen married Ernest Knauss at her parents' home north of Logan. The couple began farming east of Logan, then in Neola for four years and then in the Woodbine area before purchasing the farm southeast of Logan in 1953.
Helen was a member of the Christian Church in Logan and the K and A Neighborhood Club. She loved square dancing, and traveled to Okoboji every year just to square dance. She also enjoyed taking care of her grandchildren and teaching Sunday school. Helen and Ernie wintered in Texas for many years. The couple loved to travel in their motor home.
Helen died Saturday, November 21, 2009, at Rose Vista Nursing Home in Woodbine, Iowa attaining the age of 84 years, three months and seven days.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ernie Knauss on September 19, 2004; grandson, Brian Yost, and sister, Nellie Leonard. She is survived by her three children, Hazel and her husband Merrill Mohn of Woodbine, Iowa, Neil Knauss and his wife Betsy of Logan, Iowa, Dale Knauss and his wife Helen of Logan, Iowa; 15 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; brother, Frank Grosvenor and his wife Beulah of Phoenix, Arizona; sister Erma Knauss of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and many other nieces, nephews and friends.
