Helen Louise Mahlberg
Helen Louise Hartwig Mahlberg was born March 21, 1921, to Emil and Mary (Jones) Hartwig in Dunlap, Iowa. She grew up in the Dunlap area and attended country school. She married Roman Mahlberg on April 14, 1945, and the two lived on the farm east of Dunlap. Helen worked at the Sugar Bowl and the Bowling Alley for many years.
Helen was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and the Altar Society. She loved farming, gardening and the out-of-doors. She also enjoyed playing cards.
Helen died on August 26, 2003, at Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa attaining the age of 82 years, five months, and five days.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother Harold Hartwig, and one sister Gladys Harper. She is survived by her daughter Sandra Nano of Omaha, Nebraska; grandson Chris Oden of Omaha, Nebraska; and two sisters Ruth and Del O'Day of Dunlap, Iowa and Edith Jenkins of Woodbine, Iowa; and one sister-in-law Rita Hartwig of Dunlap, Iowa.
