Homer Eggers was born January 29, 1919, near Dunlap, Iowa to Herman and Laura Eggers. Homer attended country school near Dunlap. He worked with the WPA for some time and then proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II. On October 16, 1943, Homer married Colleen Mulligan. The couple made their home in Dunlap. Homer worked various jobs including: at Simon Brothers and for Danny Heffernan. Most of Homer's jobs involved auto mechanics or auto body work.
Homer was a member of the Dunlap American Legion. He enjoyed doing woodworking projects, being outdoors, and he liked to stay busy.
Homer died on Saturday, September 17, 2011, at the Dunlap Nursing and Rehab Center at the age of 92 years, seven months and 19 days.
Homer was preceded in death by his parents; daughter-in-law, Jane Eggers; and four brothers, Jack, Elmer, Eddie and Leonard Eggers. He is survived by his wife, Colleen Eggers of Dunlap, Iowa; son, Larry Eggers of Dunlap, Iowa; three granddaughters, Susie Eggers and Ray Sorenson of Omaha, Nebraska, Jennifer Eggers and Bill Nelson of Council Bluffs, Iowa and Christy Kizer of Omaha, Nebraska; seven great grandchildren, Emma, Jason, Macayla, Raelynn, Cole, Bryant and Adison; and many other relatives and friends.
