Ida Blackman

Ida May (Anderson) Blackman was born August 19, 1919, to Harry and Kate (Lowe) Anderson in Sioux City, Iowa. Ida lived in Sioux City, Iowa, and Yankton and Irene South Dakota. She graduated from high school in Irene. Ida worked in Worthington, Minnesota cleaning houses when she met Gordon Blackman. The couple was married on September 8, 1940 and then farmed in the Woodbine area. Gordon died in 1970 and Ida moved to town. Ida sold Avon for over 35 years. In 1990 Ida moved to Council Bluffs. Ida worked at the Super Saver Grocery Store in Council Bluffs up until the age of 82.

Ida was a member the United Methodist Church in Woodbine and of Rebekah's. She enjoyed bowling and was in a league in Dunlap and then in Council Bluffs. She also enjoyed going to the Eagle's Club to dance.

Ida died on Tuesday, January 12, 2010, at Midlands Living Center in Council Bluffs, Iowa at the age of 90 years, four months, and 24 days.

Ida was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gordon Blackman; great grandson, Justin Grandmont; two brothers, Rupert and Gene Anderson; and two sisters, Arlene McHenry and Betty Lucas. She is survived by her two daughters, Judy and her husband Ted Grandmont of Avoca, Iowa, Betty and her husband Ron Allen of Council Bluffs, Iowa; seven grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; one sister, Thelma Avery of Yankton, South Dakota; and many other relatives and friends.
