Ivan W. Parr was born June 7, 1924, on a farm near Turin, Iowa to Amos and Mabel (Ingram) Parr. He attended country school near Turin until he moved with his family to Pisgah, Iowa where he finished his schooling. He was inducted into the army on March 31, 1944, at Camp Dodge Iowa. He went overseas to the European Theater in September 1944 and served as a rifleman with the 4th Armored Division. He received the good conduct medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, and the Distinguished Unit Badge. He was discharged on May 2, 1946, with the rank of Technician 5th grade.
After the war he worked as a farm hand in the Pisgah area before moving to the Harlan, Iowa area where he worked on a turkey farm. He moved to Neligh, Nebraska in 1982 and went to work for Bennett's at their turkey farm. Later he worked for Vivian Taylor as a farm hand and also ran a lawn mowing and snow removal service. Ivan was united in marriage to Corlyss Shepard on August 25, 1957 at Little Sioux, Iowa.
Ivan was baptized into the United Methodist Church, along with his children, at Kirkman, Iowa. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Neligh and a member of the VFW.
Ivan was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers and one great granddaughter.
He is survived by his wife, Corlyss; one son, Russell Parr of Neligh, Nebraska; two daughters, Patricia and her husband David Samler of Omaha, Nebraska and Linda Hendrix of Norfolk, Nebraska; five grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.
