Jack Loren Ayres was born April 14, 1926, to Lawrence and Mary (Clark) Ayres at Atlantic, Iowa. He was raised in Omaha, Nebraska and graduated from Tech High School. Jack proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corp during WWII. He was in the battle of Iwo Jima and was awarded the Purple Heart. On September 27, 1952, Jack married Carmella Corritore in Omaha. Jack attended Metro Tech and studied psychology for two years. The couple lived in Omaha where Jack was a painter. The couple moved to Woodbine in 1993.
Jack was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, American Legion and VFW. He was also a member of the DAV in Omaha, Purple Heart Association and Woodbine Kiwanis Club. Jack enjoyed visiting and talking about his service in the Marines.
Jack died on Tuesday, August 19, 2008, at Community Memorial Hospital in Missouri Valley, Iowa at the age of 82 years, four months, and five days.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; son Jack Ayres, Jr.; and brother, Bill Ayres. He is survived by his wife, Carmella Ayres of Woodbine, Iowa; daughter, Patricia Lambert of Charleston, South Carolina; son, Terrance Ayres of Omaha, Nebraska; three grandchildren; one great granddaughter; three sisters, Judy Lewis of Mondamin Iowa, Bev and her husband Don VanDyke of Bend, Oregon, Peggy Reidman of Marcola, Oregon; sister-in-law, Donna Ayres of Omaha, Nebraska; and many other relatives and friends.
