James Newland

James Arthur Newland was born August 10, 1941, to Arthur and Kathryn (Gibson) Newland in Woodbine, Iowa. He attended county school and graduated from Woodbine High School in 1959. Jim trucked and shelled corn with his father. He joined the United States Navy and proudly served his country from 1964 ~ 1966. He is a Viet Nam Veteran. After his honorable discharge he returned to Woodbine and began trucking again. On January 10, 1970, he married Deloris Schroeder at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Woodbine. He was employed as a part-time rural mail carried in 1969 and he became full-time with the post office in 1971.
Jim was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Woodbine American Legion, Logan VFW, and the Two Cylinder Club. Jim's passion was to make sure all veterans were honored.
Jim died suddenly on Thursday, November 17, 2005, at the age of 64 years, three months, and seven days.
Jim was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his wife Deloris, of Woodbine, Iowa; daughter, Susan and her husband Stephen Olson of Crescent, Iowa; mother, Kathryn Newland of Woodbine, Iowa; sister, Sally and her husband Bob Pryor of Phoenix, Arizona; and many other relatives and friends.
