Janice LaVonne (Davis) Kelley was born May 16, 1935, to Benjamin Franklin "Frank" and Della (Martin) Davis in Woodbine, Iowa. She was the oldest of three children, graduating from Woodbine High School in 1953. Jan married Donald E. Kelley on January 23, 1955. To this union three children were born. Jan was a full-time homemaker until 1974 when she began a 25-year career at First National Bank in Woodbine. Don and Jan farmed near Woodbine for many years before moving to town in 1996.
Jan was very active in her church and community. She was an organist at the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) from 1952 ~ 2006 and served on the Church Board and CWF for many years. She was a member of the Harrison County Historical Society, American Legion Auxiliary, Red Hat Club, and AFS. Jan also enjoyed volunteering at the Welcome Center. Among many of her other interests, Jan loved writing poetry, sewing, quilting, reading and traveling with her family and friends.
Jan died on Saturday, August 11, 2007, at Rose Vista Nursing Home in Woodbine, Iowa after a nine month battle with brain cancer attaining the age of 72 years, two months, and 26 days.
Jan was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Michael Davis and his wife, Sue. She is survived by her husband, Don Kelley of Woodbine, Iowa; son, Kit Kelley of Omaha, Nebraska; two daughters, Karen and her husband Tom Roed of Paullina, Iowa, Barbara and her husband Barry Poe of Sioux City, Iowa; AFS son, Glenn Miller and his wife Angela of Sydney, Australia; five grandchildren, Christopher Roed and his wife Ivy, Jonathan Roed, Kaitlin Roed, Laura Poe, and Daniel Poe; brother Jim Davis of Elizabeth, Colorado; and many other relatives and friends.
