Jerry Hussing was born on October 22, 1942, in Council Bluffs, Iowa to Ralph and Fleta Hussing. After their divorce, Fleta married Lester Peterson and he helped in the upbringing of Jerry and his siblings. Jerry started school in Council Bluffs and when he was seven years old the family moved to Little Sioux, Iowa. He attended school there until he joined the United States Navy in 1962. Jerry proudly served his country for four years and four months, serving as an Air Dale Mechanic on the USS Bennington during Vietnam. On August 13, 1966, Friday the 13th, Jerry was united in marriage to Sally Peasley at the Onawa Christian Church in Onawa, Iowa. He worked construction on the road and then started working for Harrison County Engineering Department as a road grader operator, which is the job he had until his retirement.
Jerry was a member of the Church of Christ in Little Sioux. He loved fishing and hunting and was an avid mushroom hunter, which is a love he has passed on to his children and grandchildren. Jerry and Sally enjoyed square dancing and camping together. He also liked playing card games, board games and marbles. He was extremely competitive and many times found a way to cheat through the game. He thought he had a poker face but his family could see right through it because of his grin.
Jerry died on Friday, September 9, 2022, at the age of 79 years, 10 months and 18 days.
